Marshchapel is a thriving medium sized village on the A1031 coast road. It sits between Cleethorpes on the Humber Estuary, some 12 miles away to the north and Mablethorpe, with its sandy dunes approximately 19 miles to the south. Close by is Tetney 4 miles away and Grainthorpe 2 miles away.
Marshchapel has a thriving Nursery Infant School, which caters for children aged 2 – 7 years old, children aged 8 – 11 are educated at Grainthorpe Junior School, whilst secondary education is available at Birkbeck School at North Somercotes or any of the Louth schools, including King Edward VI Grammar School. Louth is approximately 12 miles away.
Marshchapel has a licensed general store and garage repair facility as well as two public houses.
The medieval church of St Mary’s is known locally as ‘The Cathedral of the Marshes’ and the local bell ringers can be heard most Tuesday evenings. The Methodist Chapel is also a centre point of the village, where a weekly ‘Pop In’ for lunch is located, every Tuesday lunchtime for the cost of £4.00.
There is a good sized village hall with kitchen facilities which is available to hire for all sorts of things from keep fit to weddings and birthday parties. Marshchapel has a Playing Field which has a junior football pitch and an adult football pitch on it, as well as a children’s play area.
There is no sea front at Marshchapel but the foreshore can be reached by driving (or walking) to Horseshoe Point and there are various public footpaths around the village.
There is a limited bus service in the village and the nearest supermarket and petrol station is Tesco at Humberston, about 10 miles away. A mobile library visits once a month.
People of all ages live in Marshchapel, some have lived there all their lives, historically it was a farming community, being surrounded by good farm land but now the inhabitants come from all walks of life, and the faming is still thriving.
